The One Accord Project leads a network of 30 African American pastors and faith-leaders from various congregations and denominations in Contra Costa County, California. This network consists of committed and engaged clergy who are committed to changing the narrative in their communities and congregations. The One Accord Project hosts monthly briefings with this network of, medical experts, county health officials and other subject matter experts. The briefings provide the network members with the opportunity to learn about the most current information on health issues impacting their communities such as COVID-19 as well as resources and strategies to address the issues, e.g., messaging, outreach events, etc. The One Accord project uses the monthly briefings to promote effective collaboration and engagement between the network members and medical experts, county officials, subject matter experts and community leaders.
One Accord Project’s Impact:
- Hosted over 40 church-based vaccine clinics in Contra Costa County in partnership with the One Accord Pastors and Faith Leaders Network. An estimated 7,000 Contra Costa County residents received vaccines.
- Obtained funding to provide incentives (lunch and gift cards) to get hard-to-reach communities to participate in vaccination clinics.
- Distributed over 100,000 masks, tests and sanitizers to churches and homeless encampments to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
- Hosted monthly virtual/in-person “Pastoring During the Pandemic” briefings the network, medical experts, county officials and subject matter experts. These briefings began in the spring of 2020 to bring clergy together and connect them with medical experts to provide accurate and up to date information and resources.
